Academic Training - How to Apply
Applying for Academic Degree Training
The following information is provided as a quick reference for individuals
applying for Academic Degree Training (ADT) opportunities, as well as those
responsible for ADT administration and processing. This information must be
used in conjunction with applicable regulations/directives governing
training. The Assistant Secretary of the Army, Manpower and Reserve Affairs
(ASA M&RA) is the sole approving authority of Academic Degree Training,
regardless of funding source (Memorandum,
Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA) G-3/5/7, 17 Sep 09, subject:
Academic Degree Training).
Application Process
Employees, who are members of a Career Program submitting requests for
degree programs to be funded with central ACTEDS funds, must submit their
application packages through the appropriate chain of command to the
respective Functional Chief Representative's office for review and selection
through a competitive process (AR
690-950).
Command funded requests must be accompanied by a command
endorsement from the Commander or designated Command Point of Contact (POC)
that command/installation funding is available.
The FCR or Command POC will forward complete packets at least 60 days before class start date for
written approval of the degree program THROUGH the Deputy Chief of Staff,
G-37, Training Directorate, Civilian Training and Leader Development
Division (G-37/TRV), FOR Assistant Secretary of the Army, Manpower and
Reserve Affairs (ASA M&RA), 111 Army Pentagon, Room 2E469, Washington, DC
20310-0111.

Continued service agreements are required by all applicants and must be
included in the application. The employee must agree to serve three times
the length of training paid for and/or attended while in a pay status,
during hours of normal scheduled tour of duty. Three times the length of
training is the minimum amount; interested applicants should consult with
their organization if the period of time required to serve is beyond the

Selection/Notification
Employees who receive written approval from the FCR that their training
request has been approved must initiate an SF-182 in the Resource Allocation
Selection System (RASS). The document is automatically routed through the
Budget Analyst, G-37/TRV, and is assigned an training fund cite prior to the
student beginning training.
Employees with command funded requests will
receive written approval from the Command POC. The SF-182 will be initiated
in accordance with local established procedures.
Important Dates
Acceptance dates for Academic Degree Training applications are ongoing.
Complete requests must be received by G-37/TRV no later than 60 days prior
to class start date.
