Academic Degree Training

Academic Degree Training

The Army may pay and/or assist Army Civilian employees in obtaining an academic degree if the training meets identified organizational training needs; resolves an identified staffing problem or accomplishes organizational goals in the strategic plan. Academic Degree Training is defined as training or education with the stated objective of obtaining an academic degree (Title 5 USC 4107).

The Academic Degree Training program MUST be related to the performance of the employee’s official duties and part of a planned, systematic and coordinated program of professional development, endorsed by the Army. Training must be accredited and provided by a nationally recognized accredited college or university.

The Assistant Secretary of the Army, Manpower and Reserve Affairs (ASA &; RA) is the sole approving authority for Academic Degree Training, regardless of funding source (Memorandum, Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA), G-3/5/7, 17 Sep 09, Subject: Academic Degree Training).
