Academic Degree Training
The Army may pay and/or assist Army Civilian employees in obtaining an
academic degree if the training meets identified organizational training needs;
resolves an identified staffing problem or accomplishes organizational goals in
the strategic plan. Academic Degree Training is defined as training or education
with the stated objective of obtaining an academic degree (Title
5 USC 4107).
The Academic Degree Training program MUST be related to the performance of
the employee’s official duties and part of a planned, systematic and coordinated
program of professional development, endorsed by the Army. Training must be
accredited and provided by a nationally recognized accredited college or
university.
The Assistant Secretary of the Army, Manpower and Reserve Affairs (ASA &; RA)
is the sole approving authority for Academic Degree Training, regardless of
funding source
