Colonel Townley R. Hedrick is a native of Wellsville, New York. He earned his commission through the James Madison University ROTC program, graduating in 1992.

Colonel Hedrick’s initial assignment was Fort Drum, New York. His jobs included Rifle Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and Battalion Adjutant (S-1) for 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment.

During his time as a captain, Colonel Hedrick served at Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He trained and taught infantry tactics as a Platoon Trainer for the Infantry Officer’s Basic Course (IOBC) in 2nd Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment before being assigned to Fort Campbell, KY. There he served as the Battalion Logistics Officer (S-4) and company commander for Alpha and HHC Companies for 3rd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment. His final duty position was as the Brigade Adjutant (S-1) for 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.

After attendance at the Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC), Colonel Hedrick served as the Brigade Logistics Officer (S-4) for the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3BCT, 82nd Airborne Division, Ft Bragg, North Carolina; and then as the Battalion S-3 and Battalion XO for 3rd Battalion, 505th PIR (transformed to 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment). His next assignment was as an Interagency Planner, J-3, Joint Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Colonel Hedrick then moved to the Pentagon as the Aide de Camp for the Vice Chief of Staff, Army, and then served as a planner for the Army’s Office of the Chief, Legislative Liaison (OCLL) in Washington, D.C.

Colonel Hedrick’s next assignment was as the Battalion Commander for 1-19th Infantry (OSUT), at Ft. Benning, Georgia before moving back to Fort Campbell, Kentucky to serve as the Deputy Commander for 2BCT, and then the as the Chief of Operations for the 101st Airborne Division, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.

Colonel Hedrick’s operational deployments include Haiti with the 10th Mountain Division; Iraq with the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions; Afghanistan with the 101st; and two disaster relief deployments within the United States: Montana (wildfires) and New Orleans (Hurricane Katrina Relief).

Colonel Hedrick’s schools and education include: Infantry Officer’s Basic Course, Infantry Officer’s Advanced Course, Command and General Staff College, the Army War College, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Jumpmaster School, and Ranger School. Colonel Hedrick holds a B.S. in Mathematics from JMU, a Masters in Policy Management from Georgetown, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College.

Colonel Hedrick’s awards include: Bronze Star Medal (4rd award), Meritorious Service Medal (4th award), Army Commendation Medal (third award), the Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Basic Airborne Badge.
