Simulations Division & MSTC

Camp Atterbury has a robust simulations capability with three (3) designated activities including:

   • 25-acre Training Aids, Devices, Simulators, and Simulations (TADSS) complex;
   • Approximately 10,000 sq feet Training Support Center (TSC);
   • 25-acre Joint Simulations, Training and Exercise Center (JSTEC) with ARNG Mission Training Complex (MTC) capabilities.

Also available is Muscatatuck's Virtual, Constructive, Gaming capability, Virtual Battlefield Space 2 (VBS2) and the SSG Richard A. Blakley Medical Simulation Training Center at Atterbury.

The Joint Simulation Training and Exercise Center (JSTEC) consists of approximately 60,000 sq. ft. of indoor training facilities under roof, and 4 outdoor pads.  (downloadable pdf).

The facility provides space capable of supporting large-scale exercises, mobilizations, homeland security training, and vaired testing exercises at both the SECRET and UNCLASSIFIED levels.

The site, which has a dedicated JTEN 2.0 node, is located within the complex and allows the site to digitally connect to exercises throughout the world, including the Joint Readiness Training Center, National Training Center, and exercises internationally for both SECRET and UNCLASSIFIED exercises.

Camp Atterbury also has the ability to connect via JTEN 2.0 to JMETC from within the complex, which allows CAJMTC and MUTC to participate in distributed testing events located at any JMETC site throughout the world.

Muscatatuck Urban Training Center - VBS3

MUTC is currently expanding upon its VBS3 terrain database, one-hundred percent of the terrain is currently mapped into the Flex Train and/or One- SAF constructive simulations.

Flex Train is an entity tracker that allows friendly commanders the opportunity to watch their operation unfold live or in an after action review style reconstruction. This capability shows down to the individual level, the direction barrels were pointed, which role player was "killed" by which Soldier, and shows pattern of life for each individual.

Virtual Battlefield Space 3 (VBS3) is a comprehensive high fidelity virtual sandbox where individual or collective training can be conducted. VBS3 is a valuable mission rehearsal tool and place where Soldiers and leaders can develop and practice unit tactics, techniques and procedures in a game environment before executing live training in preparation for combat operations. Trainees are prepared for real-life challenges by being immersed in life-like virtual environments. Simulations are operated from the first person perspective on standard desktop computers. Example training outcomes may include learning new convoy drills, combat reconnaissance patrols or understanding how to correctly lay out a vehicle checkpoint in a hostile village.

The  SSG Richard A. Blakley Medical Simulation Training Center (MSTC) provides state-of-the-art trauma and medical simulation capabilities. With both classroom and simulated battlefield conditions, it's versatility delivers effective medical training for medical and non-medical personnel in the National Guard, Reserves, and Active Duty.
