The Loss Control Consultant is responsible for the provision of risk management, loss prevention, and safety related services that will assist our clients in the identification and remediation of various related hazards with an emphasis on employee safety and workers’ compensation. The Loss Control Consultant provides training on a number of topics that are client and industry specific related to regulatory requirements, workers’ compensation cost control and various insurance requirements.

Job Duties:

  • Work closely with producers and internal staff to provide loss control service to clients. 
  • Communicate and keep track of customer issues, projects, and progress.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Write simple business correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, additionally capable of computing rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Recommend, implement, and improve safety and loss control programs based on loss history, regulation, organizational needs, and industry “best practices”.
  • Establishing relationships with clients, making regular visits to client locations to develop client safety policies and procedures.
  • Research safety and loss control issues, and analyze client loss information.
  • Developing and conducting presentations and training sessions with client management and employees.
  • Serve as a liaison between insurance company loss control and clients by coordinating visits and service plans.
  • Follow-up and assist clients with implementing recommendations submitted by insurance company loss control representatives.
  • Attend industry and professional meetings, conventions, seminars, and training courses within scope of employment.
  • Assist with development and serve as faculty for client education seminars.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management or related discipline.
  • Minimum 0-3 year’s insurance loss control and/or safety management experience with construction, manufacturing and related industries.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations for construction and general industry, loss control “best practices” and workers compensation programs is required.
  • Knowledge of loss control strategies related to vehicle operations, fire prevention, general liability, etc.is preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT, NFPA, ANSI and Industrial Hygiene Practices is a plus.
  • PC operation to a relatively advanced level, including word processing and spreadsheet ability. Standard software programs utilized: Power Point, Word, Excel, e-mail (Outlook), Internet Industry specific: Epic
  • Missouri Producer’s License required within 1 year of employment. CSP, ARM, and ALCM are preferred.
  • Three to six months of on-the-job training.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms, stoop, and kneel. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 10 pounds. The vision requirements include close vision and ability to adjust and focus. This position requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle for travel to client locations. Walking on uneven surfaces is often required on job-sites along with climbing ladders and stairs. Occasional air travel may be required. A significant portion of time is spent in client locations that include construction job-sites and various manufacturing environments that may require the use of various personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses and hearing protection. The position will reside within normal office conditions when not at client locations.
