Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA)

With headquarters at Fort Lee, Virginia, DeCA operates a  worldwide chain of nearly 275 commissaries to provide groceries to U.S. military personnel, retirees and their families in a safe and secure shopping environment. Commissary patrons purchase items at cost plus a 5 percent

surcharge, which covers the construction of new commissaries and the modernization of existing stores. Patrons save an average of more than 30 percent on their purchases compared to commercial prices. These savings, worth $3,000 a year for a Family of four, enhance the quality of life for America's military and their Families.  A core military family support element, and a valued part of military pay and benefits, commissaries contribute to family readiness, enhance the quality of life for America's military and their families, and help recruit and retain the best and brightest men and women to serve their country.

DeCA has promoted ASEP at local job fairs near commissaries and in marketing materials placed in all Army commissaries.  Military spouses account for 28% of their workforce.  The Director of DeCA distributed a memorandum to each Army commissary store director to introduce them to

ASEP and encouraged them to support the ASEP program and its goals.
