Soldier For Life: Retirement Services  | Transition Assistance Program

The Fort McCoy Soldier For Life - Retirement Services Office (SFL-RSO) is located near the Main Gate in building 35. Hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; closed Wednesday. Although walk-ins are welcome, appointments are suggested. The office is handicapped accessible. Prior to October 2009, Fort McCoy provided retirement services to retirees in California and Nevada. Retirement services for these states now are provided by the Presidio of Monterey RSO. The Fort McCoy SFL-RSO can be reached by calling 608-388-3716 or by sending email to Retirement Services Office.

The RSO conducts quarterly pre-retirement and Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) orientations and schedules and coordinates Soldier For Life - Tranistion Assistance Program (SFL-TAP) briefings. The one-day pre-retirement orientations are conducted the first Monday in the months of February, May, August and November. The SFL-TAP briefing is conducted Tuesday through Thursday following each pre-retirement orientation. The pre-retirement orientation agenda is available by clicking here. A Retiree Appreciation Day (RAD) is conducted annually at Fort McCoy in September. The RAD features a morning session with guest speakers from organizations that affect military retiree living. The afternoon session is a benefits fair featuring display tables manned by representatives from a wide variety of military retiree and veteran-related organizations and activities. The RSO publishes its annual retiree newsletter, "HONORS" each summer. The newsletter includes valuable information about retiree issues and benefits, as well as information about RADs being held throughout the five-state area. Fort McCoy supports an installation retiree council. The Council oversees seven Area Retiree Councils located in Davenport (Quad Cities), Iowa; Des Moines, Iowa; Sheridan (Chicago), Illinois; Duluth/Superior; Minn.; Minneapolis (Twin Cities), Minn.; Selfridge, Mich.; and the Wisconsin area. Councils serve as the voice of the retiree community and have the means to submit issues up the chain of command. The Selfridge, Mich., and Sheridan, Ill., Retiree Councils operate Retiree Activity Offices (RAO) at their respective installations.
