Description: The CAC serves as the primary point of contact for surviving spouses of retired and active service members. The staff handles notification of next-of-kin, coordinates casualty assistance officers, and briefs surviving Family members on their benefits.also arranges military honors with funeral homes for all deceased Army personnel (active duty, retirees, veterans)

Virginia Department of Veteran Services
The Department of Veterans Services (DVS) is organized into five service delivery sections: benefits, veterans education, care centers, veterans cemeteries, and the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program.
Benefits Services assists veterans of the armed forces and their dependents in accessing federal and state veterans benefits. DVS operates 21 benefits services offices throughout the Commonwealth where veterans and their dependents receive free assistance in developing and filing claims for federal veterans benefits.
The Virginia Wounded Warrior Program is designed to provide timely supplemental behavioral health, rehabilitation services, and support to Virginia’s veterans, members of the Virginia National Guard, Virginia residents in the Armed Forces Reserves, and their family members, who are coping with the effects of combat/operational stress and other combat-related injuries resulting from their service and sacrifice in the U.S. Armed Forces. The Program focuses on traumatic brain injuries and post traumatic stress disorders and operates in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services and the Virginia Department of Rehabilitation Services.
Human Resource Service Center:
The Human Resource Service Center provides timely service to Army Veterans and their Family Members in support of their efforts to process entitlements, benefits, obtain missing records, update systems, etc.
Veterans from all periods of military service are eligible for job referral, job training and job placement assistance through the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC). Veterans may access these employment services through a statewide network of VEC Field Operations offices and the Veterans Services Staff (DVOP and LVER) who are assigned to most, but not all, of the VEC Workforce Centers across Virginia.

War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC)
The War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC) is a National VA Post-Deployment Health Resource, providing environmental exposure assessments and comprehensive medical evaluations for Veterans who have chronic, medically unexplained symptoms and/or and difficult to diagnose symptoms that they believe are related to their deployment. The WRIISC also provides post-deployment health education to Veterans, families and loved ones of deployed Veterans, health care providers, and the general public.
The VA offers a wide array of special programs and initiatives specifically designed to help homeless veterans live as self-sufficiently and independently as possible.
