In the interest of maintaining a high quality of life for U.S. Sailors and Marines, NCIS Special Agents typically investigate crimes involving the removal, damage or destruction of personal property valued at $2,500 or more.
NCIS also generally investigates crimes against government property valued at $5,000 or more, as well as cases involving property considered to be especially sensitive, such as weapons, explosives or ammunition. Offenses such as wrongful destruction and arson also receive special attention, as they can have a serious impact on military readiness.
