Office History:
The NWFO is headquartered onboard
Naval Base Kitsap Bangor, in Silverdale, WA and provides investigative and operational support throughout the six-state area of responsibility (AOR) of Commander, Navy Region Northwest (CNRNW): Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa and Wyoming as well as the western provinces of Canada. CNRNW is home to the third largest concentration of Navy and Marine Corps commands and personnel in the world, with more than 130,000 DoN active duty personnel, family members and civilian employees assigned to ships, submarines, squadrons and shore commands.  It features one of the Navy's four nuclear shipyards, the only West Coast dry dock capable of handling a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and the Navy's largest fuel depot.

Territory Overview: Canada, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Iowa
The NWFO’s subordinate offices include NCIS Resident Agency (NCISRA) Bremerton, NCISRA Whidbey Island, NCISRA Everett, and NCIS Resident Unit (NCISRU) USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) and NCISRU USS Nimitz (CVN-68). At any given time, NWFO supports a third carrier undergoing maintenance at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Maintenance Facility, currently the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76).

Investigative Units:
The NWFO executes the full spectrum of the NCIS Mission. The NWFO’s robust Family and Sexual Violence Unit focuses on providing timely, efficient and comprehensive responses to sexual assault investigations as well domestic violence and child abuse allegations.  The unit also maintains briefing and outreach programs in support of deterring future incidents of family and sexual violence.  The Department of the Navy spends about $2.8 billion annually in the region, and accordingly the NWFO conducts procurement fraud and Federal Employee Compensation Act investigations. Agents working General Crimes enjoy outstanding working relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement counterparts throughout the entire region and attend working group meetings designed to further enhance collaborative efforts.

The NWFO Counterintelligence (CI) and Counterterrorism (CT) squads focus on the identification and disruption of threats in the Northwest AOR through the execution of the full spectrum of CI/CT core capabilities to include investigations, operations, and functional services. The CI/CT staff also enjoys unprecedented partnerships within the federal law enforcement and intelligence communities, especially with our Canadian counterparts. These partnerships significantly enhance the capabilities of the NWFO in executing NCIS and DoN requirements with international interests.
