Soldiers

Transportation is divided into several categories:

Official Commercial Travel Office (CTO), local commercial transportation, Transportation Motor Pool (TMP), post shuttles, personal property (household goods and whole baggage) and freight/central receiving office.

Fort Lee’s Official CTO is located on the first floor of the Soldier Support Center, Building 3400, on the corner of “B” Avenue and 16th Street.

All service members and DOD or DA civilians traveling on official orders and who will be using commercial airlines, bus or rail services must visit the CTO prior to arranging transportation through the CTO. In addition, use of the Military Air Command (MAC) flights for overseas flights is now required for all official travel.

Travelers should be aware that due to several changes, and pending changes, in government travel regulations, failure to make travel arrangements through the CTO can result in a non- or partial reimbursement for official travel.

The CTO also arranges all PCS, ETS and TDY travel in conjunction with leave.

Local Commercial Transportation

To/From Richmond International Airport

For Advanced Individual Training Soldiers – including Army Reservists, National Guardsmen and Initial Ready Reserve Soldiers – the following companies will provide transportation between Richmond International Airport and the post at no individual cost when provided with a complete copy of the service member's signed military orders to Fort Lee (applies only to initial arrival and final departure in accordance with orders):

The companies are also authorized to convey other passengers to/from Fort Lee at their normal rates.

Taxi Service

The taxi companies listed below are authorized to operate on Fort Lee, providing transportation on/around post and in surrounding communities. Other taxi companies may deliver and pick up customers on Fort Lee by request, but may not solicit fares on post.

Rail Service

Regional and national rail service is provided by AMTRAK. The AMTRAK station is located at 3516 South Street, Ettrick, Va., and the ticket office hours are 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily.

Bus Service

Regional bus service is provided by Greyhound Trailways. The local terminal is located at 108 East Washington Street, Petersburg.

The Petersburg Area Transit operates on Fort Lee providing services to and from the installation to Petersburg with connections to the surrounding communities. Pick-up location is outside the the PXtra on Mahone Ave.

Transportation Motor Pool (TMP)

The TMP, located in Building 6295 on east end of Quartermaster Road provides administrative use vehicle support. Vehicles can be scheduled to support a variety of mission requirements. The TMP does not have tactical vehicles. The TMP operates under the U-Drive-It concept; however, should a driver be required, TMP will provide a driver to meet the mission requirement for a nominal charge.

On-Post Shuttle Service

On-post shuttle services are in use around post for military personnel attending schools. There are approximately 20 stops on the shuttle route with shuttles arriving every 25 minutes for pickup. Services are provided seven days a week. Other may ride the shuttle with a valid DOD ID card on a space available basis.

The 23rd BDE and 61st BDE provide Advanced Individual Training (AIT) transportation services for students to and from training.

Personal Property Inbound/Outbound Shipments (Household Goods/Whole Baggage)

Inbound Shipments

The Inbound Personal Property Office arranges delivery of inbound household goods and whole baggage shipments.

At Fort Lee, household goods which are placed in non-temporary storage prior to an overseas tour are handled by a dedicated representative.

The Outbound Personal Property Office arranges shipment and storage of household goods and whole baggage.

Anyone with questions concerning household goods in non-temporary storage may contact either the inbound or outbound office and ask to be transferred to the storage representative.

Freight and Central Receiving

The Freight and Central Receiving Office, Building 7126, is located at the corner of 19th Street and Warehouse Road. This office receives all inbound freight and supplies, arranges outbound freight shipments, overnight delivery of small packages and receipt of supplies and equipment.
