Description
WSE-005, Systems Engineering Planning, is a DAU targeted training course that provides students with the knowledge and understanding of selected systems engineering and technical management focus areas. The workshop provides a foundation for effective technical planning and development of an executable Systems Engineering Plan (SEP) for an acquisition program. This three and half-day course consists of various student activities, including lectures, facilitated discussions, hands-on team exercises, and student presentations.
Objectives
Upon completion of WSE-005, students will be able to:
  • Describe top-level DoD systems engineering policy as it applies to the Acquisition Program Life-Cycle.
  • Describe the purpose and application of the systems engineering (SE) processes and their artifacts.
  • Describe how to organize a program team and interface with program stakeholders to conduct detailed systems engineering planning.
  • Describe how to develop a tailored systems engineering plan that answers the following about your program’s technical effort:
  • What needs to be done? (Define the scope of the technical work)
  • Who will do it? (Establish roles and responsibilities)
  • When the work must be done? (Phasing and scheduling)
  • What resources will be needed and how will they be managed? (Staffing and contracting)
  • How will progress be tracked? (Technical assessment & measurement)
  • How will technical risk and opportunity be managed? (Integrating systems engineering with other functional areas and business processes to manage and control technical risk and opportunity)
  • Evaluate a systems engineering plan for technical consistency and completeness.
  • Target Attendees
This workshop is open to all DoD employees across all competencies (ENG, PM, TST, LOG, FM, etc). From intern to senior-level management, everyone benefits from this workshop and its collaborative, open-discussion environment.
    Prerequisite(s)
