The medical center is approximately 60–percent complete with construction estimated to be complete in 2014. Doors open for patients by the summer of 2015.

Prichard Stadium was demolished to make way for new $534 million Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. A new stadium will be constructed at the west end of Fort Hood near Clear Creek.
The new $534 million Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center is being built directly across from the current hospital. At 947,000 square feet, the new medical center will be 60 percent larger than the current building.

Approximately five miles of "duct banks" beneath the grounds of the existing hospital parking area were required to distribute 3,500 telephones lines and fiber optic cables for the new hospital.

Drilling has begun for placement of massive, concrete piers at the construction site of the new Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. Almost 1,000 piers, averaging 35-feet in depth, are required to ensure sufficient support for the foundation of the new 947,000 square feet facility.
