Information For Families

Welcome to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center!

We encourage you to enroll in TRICARE Prime. TRICARE Prime is the military's health plan for delivering complete, comprehensive health care in military hospitals and clinics for active duty military and their families, eligible retired military and their family members and survivors. By enrolling in TRICARE Prime, you ensure that you and your family will have guaranteed access to expanded, quality health care.

Military hospital and clinics have the best–educated, most professional health care physicians and specialists in the world. Their first priority is a lasting commitment to provide the best health care through continuing education and leading edge technology.

Through Darnall's integrated System of Health, you have access to all the medical and wellness services in our system. Our patients are soldiers, children, spouses, and retirees. In addition to the hospital, we have a system of health clinics.

Family members must either enroll in TRICARE Prime or update current enrollment to receive health care in one of our clinics. You are assigned a Primary Care Manager based on available capacity.

Active duty service members are enrolled in TRICARE Prime when they go through the Copeland Soldier Service Center. Service members are seen in unit–designated health clinics and Troop Medical Clinics.

It is very important that families and service members update information in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) database. DEERS determines your eligibility for health care, among other benefits. If information is not current when you seek health care, you may be responsible for some of the cost. You can update DEERS information at the ID card section in the Copeland Soldier Service Center.

Additionally, your information must be current in the hospital's Composite Health Care System database. This is your record of health care. Please update information when you call for appointments through the Patient Appointment System, (254) 288-8888.
