Overview

Pulmonary Disease / Respiratory Therapy

The Pulmonary Disease Service is committed to providing quality subspecialty care in pulmonary medicine to eligible Department of Defense beneficiaries as well as support military readiness and graduate medical education (GME). Pulmonary medicine integrates a thorough understanding of general internal medicine with special expertise in the care of respiratory disease. We are honored to provide care for active duty, retirees and dependent military beneficiaries.

Clinical divisions within the Pulmonary Service include the Pulmonary Clinic, Pulmonary Function Laboratory, Bronchoscopy and Respiratory Therapy Services

Respiratory Therapy Section

The Respiratory Therapy Section provides 24-hour inpatient coverage for the board field of respiratory care. This includes, but is not limited to mechanical ventilation, chest physiotherapy, airway management, aerosol/O2 therapy, sputum induction, critical patient transport and arterial puncture and blood gases analysis.

Graduate Medical Education

The Pulmonary Disease Service supports Graduate Medical Education by providing educational opportunities for training programs intrinsic to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, including the Family Practice Residency and Physician Assistant training programs.

Appointments

Follow-up appointments can be made by calling (254) 288-8952, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday; Thursdays from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

New patients are evaluated by referral only.

As a courtesy to other clinic patients and to allow for your full allotted appointment time, please ensure you arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

Children under the age of 12 are not allowed in the clinic.

    • Pulmonary Infections
    • Asthma/COPD
    • Chronic Respiratory Failure
    • Interstitial Lung Disease
    • Lung Cancer
  • The performance and interpretation of pulmonary function testing:
    • Airway Challenge Testing
    • Blood Gas Analysis
    • Exhaled nitric Oxide testing
    • Flow-Volume Relationships
    • Body Plethysmography
    • Respiratory Mechanics
  • Invasive Diagnostic and Therapeutic procedures:
    • Bronchoscopy
    • Thoracentesis
    • Closed Tube Thoracostomy
  • Clinic interpretation of thoracic imaging findings:
    • Radionuclide Scans
    • Fluoroscopy
    • Chest Roentgenograms
    • MRI
