    • High volume emergency department with 75,000 visits per year
    • Brand new state of the art 32-bed emergency department, the largest in the Department of Defense

Faculty

  • Full–time, EM–trained, board certified or board eligible faculty.
  • Contract faculty physicians with copious experience outside of the military bringing a unique perspective to the ED.
  • One fellowship trained Toxicologist.
  • Multiple oral board trainers for the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
  • One oral board examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
  • Military faculty possess a wide range of operational experiences, with most having deployed in various capacities to support Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, including Battalion and Brigade surgeons, combat support hospitals and special operations.

Academics

  • Nearly unopposed residency Family Practice is the only other primary residency at CRDAMC. No competition for ED–based procedures or management of trauma patients.
  • Strong didactic program with oral boards based morning report four days a week and five hours of lecture for weekly grand rounds.
  • Dozens of publications in the last two years with multiple conference presentations, including poster presentations and the annual SAEM CPC competition.
  • Annual cadaver–based procedure lab and advanced airway management course.
  • Semiannual live tissue–based procedure lab.
  • Semiannual patient simulator lab in a separate virtual emergency room with multiple resuscitation suites and elaborate simulation medicine setups, including some of the most advanced mannequin patient simulators available.
  • One of the few residencies in the nation to offer the Advanced Wilderness Life Support (AWLS) program as a part of the core residency curriculum.
  • Strong ultrasound program with formal didactics and one month of ultrasound experience during the first year of residency, including time spent in radiology and echocardiography.
  • BLS, ATLS, ACLS and PALS provided for first–year residents.
  • Monthly journal clubs focusing on current evidence based medicine and research concepts.
