Prime - The military's health plan. Eligible family members enroll into this program You are assigned a Primary Care Manager that provides for your health care needs.
Standard - A fee-for-service option. Family members can use their doctors and the government will share the cost of medical care. Deductibles and co-pays apply.
Extra - A Preferred Provider Network option. Enrollment is not required, and you must use local providers in the network (Find a Provider. Deductible and reduced co-pays apply.

TRICARE Information for Retirees
TRICARE Plus - Retirees over age 65 may be empanelled in a specific military treatment facility providing there is sufficient capacity. Due to limited capacity, Darnall only empanels enough retirees over age 65 to support our Graduate Medical Education programs. For more information, call a Health Benefits Advisor.
The TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP)–the only dental benefits program authorized by the government for Uniformed Services retirees.
Retirees Over 65 – TRICARE for Life The National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2001 expanded TRICARE benefits for eligible beneficiaries who are age 65 and over and enrolled in Medicare Part B
TRICARE For Life Myths – On October 1, military Medicare–eligible beneficiaries will become eligible for TRICARE For Life, under which TRICARE will provide second-payer coverage to Medicare.
Retirees Under 65 have the same TRICARE benefits as active duty except that they must pay an enrollment fee if they enroll in Prime.
TRICARE and Medicare
The House and Senate passed the "Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003." This bill is extensive and complex, and it makes dramatic changes to Medicare. It is important for uniformed services beneficiaries to understand the effect these changes may have on them in the near future and in the years to come.
