FDA List of Medicines Recommended for Disposal by Flushing
The Self Care program was designed to reduce unnecessary medical visits, thus saving the Fort Hood community time and money. Other benefits are no numbers, waiting in long lines, having the medication on hand when needed, and no late errands for OTC medications. Soldiers, retirees, and Tricare eligible family members may receive up to four different OTC medications per family per month. In order to take advantage of this program the adults in the family must present their Self-Care Card. You can obtain this card by viewing the presentation and taking the short exam. Self-Care medications may only be provided to patients and family members over the age of 2 years due to manufacturer labeling recommendations concerning doses, age specifics, etc. CRDAMC pharmacies will ensure the availability and accessibility of OTC items for beneficiaries and must counsel them on age limitations. Self-Care items are NOT available at refill pharmacy located at the Clear Creek PX.
Only patients who have taken the Self-Care Course and who have a current Self Care Card issued by CRDAMC may receive OTC medications at CRDAMC pharmacies. Active Duty Soldiers receive this class upon initial in- processing in Fort Hood at the Copeland Soldier Center. All active duty Soldiers assigned to Fort Hood may receive Self Care medications without a card. Other Military beneficiaries (ID card holders) may obtain this training online. If patients have questions about the program, or would like to schedule a class for a military unit or family readiness group they may call the Health Promotion Program at 288-8488.
