5 Steps to Reduce Your Risk of Injury and Overtraining

In an age of instant gratification, it’s hard to wait around for the results of your exercise. You might think that more intense and more frequent exercise equals flabby-to-flat abs in half the time. Many of the latest fitness programs, categorized as extreme conditioning programs, do just that. These workouts are high-volume, aggressive exercise workouts with a variety of high-intensity repetitions and short rests. But you CAN overdo it.

There’s a fine line between waking up to sore muscles that make you feel like you accomplished something in yesterday’s workout and being so sore — or even injured — that you can’t carry out your daily responsibilities. Reaching your peak fitness level requires ramping up your workouts and pushing yourself, but you also have to listen to your body and be patient or you can experience setbacks.
