Recently a group of 45 Army Civilians was honored for eliminating Syria's declared chemical weapons stockpile. Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Alan Estevez presented 12 Meritorious Civilian Service Awards and 33 Superior Civilian Service Awards to members of the multi-agency team that completed the historic mission.

"Today's ceremony is an example of how science and technology, combined with a world-class workforce and the great teamwork of all you players out there, can deliver unique capabilities to our nation," said Maj. Gen. John F. Wharton, commanding general of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command. "To me, it's another great example of rapid acquisition process to meet the operational needs of our nation."

September was National Suicide Prevention Month, and the U.S. Army's theme for the month was "Enhancing Resiliency - Strengthening Our Professionals." 8th Special Troops Battalion troops and their families wrapped up a month dedicated to resiliency and suicide prevention training with a morning hike up the Makapu'u Point Lighthouse located within Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline park in Oahu, Hawaii.

"The most important part of the hike was being able to open the event up to the Soldiers' families, too," said SFC Joseph Strnad. "The resiliency skills are there for both our Soldiers and their families to use in all parts of their lives."
