Pediatric rheumatology is one of the 13 subspecialties recognized by American Board of Pediatrics that serves children with autoimmune and inflammatory disorders.

The target organs include joints, muscles, skin, that may manifest as arthritis, myositis, or rash. If there are multiple target organs involved then the condition is called systemic illness and may affect internal organs such as kidneys, or lungs.
