Q1:

What is public voting for?

A:

The Military Health System (MHS) is inviting the public to participate in the tobacco counter-marketing competition, Fight the Enemy, by voting for their favorite public service announcement video that was made by service members for the Department of Defense (DoD) community.

Q2:

How will the public vote?

A:

The finalists’ videos will be posted on the Operation Live Well YouTube Channel. Users can vote for videos by clicking the “like” button below the video. Users must have a Google account to participate in voting.

Disclaimer: Use of YouTube and Google for voting purposes does not constitute endorsement by the DoD of these sites, or the information, products or services contained therein. For other than authorized activities such as military exchanges and Morale, Welfare and Recreation sites, the DoD does not exercise any editorial control over the information you may find at these sites.

Q3:

Can I vote from a government computer?

A:

Yes. If you have access to YouTube on your government computer, you may vote on the videos.

United States Government employees are reminded, however, that they must follow all ethics rules pertaining to the authorized use of United States Government resources including computers and information technology systems. Please consult your chain of command, ethics advisor or lawyer/General Counsel/Judge Advocate for any questions or concerns related to the use of government resources.

Q4:

Can voters with no official affiliation to the DoD participate?

A:

Yes. We encourage anyone with a Google account to vote in the contest.

Q5:

What if I don't have a Google account but would like to vote?

A:

You may sign up for a free Google account. Users without a Google account will not be able to participate.

Q6:

How will the videos be judged?

A:

The public may judge videos however they like. For added guidance, the criteria by which the expert panel will vote are listed below (not in any particular order):

  1. Storytelling ability
  2. Originality
  3. Creativity
  4. Message clarity
  5. Supports the theme Fight the Enemy; extra points for incorporating skepticism about e-cigarettes
  6. Potential impact (video that is compelling, inspiring, instructive, shareable)
  7. Adheres to the Contest Rules
Q7:

How can I increase votes for a particular video?

A:

The public is encouraged to promote videos through their social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) using the hashtag #FightTobacco.  Sharing on personal Facebook and Twitter accounts to get votes from your followers as well as emailing or texting with friends and family is also a good way to get more votes. Be creative and get noticed!

Q8:

How many times can I vote for a video?

A:

You may only vote for a video once since YouTube only allows for one “like”.

Q9:

Can I vote for multiple videos?

A:

Yes, you can click “like” on as many videos as you would like to vote for.

Q10:

Can I vote "Dislike" for a video?

A:

Q11:

What will happen to the other videos?

A:

Winners will be announced on November 19, 2015, in conjunction with the Great American Smokeout, on the Fight the Enemy website.
