Mr. David G. Yoshihara assumed duties as Director, Warfighting Assessment and Readiness, U.S. Pacific Fleet in March 2008.

After retiring from active duty as a naval officer in 2005, Yoshihara accepted a civilian government service position as the U.S. Pacific Fleet Director, Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare, where he was responsible for assessments and improvements in fleet anti-submarine warfare capabilities.

As an active duty naval officer, his sea duty assignments included division officer duty as assistant combat information center officer and first lieutenant on USS Reeves (CG 24); aide and flag lieutenant to commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group 1; department head on USS Curts (FFG 38) and to commander, Destroyer Squadron 31 (Pacific Fleet anti-submarine warfare squadron); executive officer on USS Fife (DD 991); commanding officer on USS Ticonderoga (CG 47); and assistant chief of staff for operations to commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group 2 (George Washington Carrier Strike Group). During these operational tours, he completed eight deployments to the western Pacific/Indian Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Caribbean Sea, and Arabian Gulf. His most recent deployment was as commander, Destroyer Squadron 9. He took command of Destroyer Squadron 9 in the north Arabian Sea in October 2001 while with the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group, where he served as the force sea combat commander with oversight responsibilities of all surface combatants and submarines during operation Enduring Freedom. His shore assignments include the; the Joint Staff, operations directorate (J3); and as a fellow, CNO’s Strategic Studies Group. His last active duty assignment was as director, Task Force ASW on the OPNAV staff, where he was the principal drafter of the CNO’s Anti-Submarine Warfare Concept of Operations for the 21st Century.

Yoshihara graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1979 with a bachelor’s of science degree in Ocean Engineering and he earned a master’s of science degree in Operations Research from Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
