Prevent and respond to sexual assault, eliminating it from our ranks through a balance of focused education, comprehensive response, compassionate advocacy, and just adjudication in order to promote professionalism, respect, and trust, while preserving Navy mission readiness.

April 1 marks the start of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. This week, the Director of the 21st Century Sailor Office, and the Navy’s SAPR Officer provided an interview to Chief of Naval Personnel Public Affairs on the importance of Sailors turning knowledge into action during this awareness month. Rear Adm. Ann Burkhardt addressed the importance of looking out for our shipmates through intervention, speaking up when they see something’s wrong, and using the resources across the fleet to stop sexual assault. Reducing the threat of sexual violence from within our ranks continues to be an All Hands effort - focused on our collective effort to provide safe environments for our Sailors at all levels.
SAPR Fleet-Wide Training
As part of the Navy’s continuing effort to prevent sexual assaults and promote essential culture changes within the force, a SAPR Task Force (SAPR TF) was established under the command of the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education (N1) to facilitate delivery of targeted sexual assault prevention training to all active and reserve personnel.
This training aligns with the “Strategic Direction to the Joint Force on Sexual Assault Prevention and Response” from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, supports the Secretary of Defense’s Initiatives to Combat Sexual Assault in the Military and is part of the Secretary of the Navy’s 21st Century Sailor and Marine initiative.
SAPR Leadership (SAPR-L) (E7 and above), SAPR Fleet (SAPR-F) (E6 and below), and SAPR-GMTK (E-7 and above) training will provide some of the critical tools to reduce sexual assault and promote a culture of respect and professionalism in our force, where each sailor is motivated to intervene and stop this crime.
