Employer Programs

Employer Outreach is a key function of ESGR’s mission. Each year, national and local level events are hosted across America by all 54 ESGR State Committees, including Briefings with the Boss, Bosslifts, Statement of Support signings, trade shows, educational events, job fairs, and awards presentations. Through these events, staff and volunteers personally engaged more than 131,000 employers in fiscal year 2015 alone.

Bosslifts

Employers are transported, via military vehicle, aircraft or vessel, to military facilities where they observe Guard and Reserve members on duty.

Statement of Support Program

This is the cornerstone of ESGR’s effort to gain and maintain employer support for the Guard and Reserve. The intent of the program is to increase employer support by encouraging employers to act as advocates for employee participation in the military. Supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the Nation’s Guard and Reserve units. For more information, click HERE.

Briefings with the Boss

Brings together employers, unit commanders, ESGR volunteers, and community leaders to discuss issues related to service in the Guard and Reserve.

Trade Shows and Educational Events

ESGR representatives are available and ready to attend trade shows to spread the word on ESGR outreach initiatives. Similarly, local ESGR representatives can be made available to attend in-house meetings to brief on ESGR and the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act to offices interested in better supporting their Guard and Reserve Service member employees.

Job Fairs

ESGR recognizes the unique skills a Guard or Reserve Service member can bring to a civilian employer (see our Top 10 Fact Sheet). For this reason, ESGR representatives host and attend job fairs in an effort to link employers with citizen warriors.

ESGR works with its sister program, the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program, and partners at the national, state, and local levels to address the unemployment of Guard and Reserve members, Veterans, and their families. A key component of that effort is ESGR's strategic alliance with the Department of Labor's Veterans' Employment and Training Service and their American Job Center network.

There are 2,400 American Job Centers located throughout the states and territories, providing local assistance job seekers and employers. The centers offer Guardsmen, Reservists, and Veterans access to career and financial counseling, résumé and interviewing assistance, education and retraining, job search methods, registered apprenticeships, and a vast employer network. Certain locations also provide access to on-site financial advisors. Employers receive labor market counseling, interview and job seeker selection tips, a vast job seeker network, and subsidies for hiring Veterans.

Award Presentations

Local ESGR representatives can coordinate an award presentation ceremony upon request and hold a yearly award ceremony where employers are recognized for their support of Guard and Reserve service.
