Risk Assessment

The Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) database of chemical risk values that contains information on human health effects that may result from environmental exposures. The database is maintained by EPA's National Center for Environmental Assessment.
The IRIS process consists of development of a draft Toxicological Review for the chemical, internal and external scientific reviews of the draft document, EPA responses to review comments, and development and posting on the IRIS web site of an IRIS Summary and final Toxicological Review. Highlights of the current IRIS development process include a streamlined review schedule which should result in more human health assessments being available sooner to users of the IRIS database. Opportunities occur for federal agencies to provide scientific input during an interagency review process. DoD's Chemical and Material Risk Management office coordinates DoD's scientific review and submits consolidated comments to EPA. All interagency comments are made public by EPA.

EPA invites public comment on the draft document entitled, Toxicological Review of Tetrachloroethylene (Perchloroethylene): In Support of Summary Information on the Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) (EPA/635/R-08/011A).
The draft tetrachloroethylene health assessment addresses both potential cancer and non-cancer human health effects that may result from chronic exposure to tetrachloroethylene. Tetrachloroethylene, commonly referred to as perc, is a solvent widely used in the dry cleaning of clothes and as a metal degreaser.

The CEBS database houses data of interest to environmental health scientists. CEBS is a public resource, and has received depositions of data from academic, industrial and governmental laboratories. CEBS is designed to display data in the context of biology and study design, and to permit data integration across studies for novel meta analysis.

Aggregated Computational Toxicology Resource. produced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Center for Computational Toxicology. More than 200 sources of publicly available data on environmental chemicals have been brought together and made searchable by chemical name and other identifiers, and by chemical structure. Data includes chemical structure, physico-chemical values, in vitro assay data, exposure data, and in vivo toxicology data. Chemicals include, but are not limited to, high and medium production volume industrial chemicals, pesticides (active and inert ingredients), and potential ground and drinking water contaminants.
