The SAMMC Perinatal Assessment Center opened its doors on September 6th 2011. Our modern and high tech Inpatient Obstetrics Unit affectionately nicknamed, IOU, houses our Labor and Delivery, Ante- partum and Postpartum Units and Ante-partum testing and triage for pregnant women over 20 weeks gestation and up to 6 weeks postpartum. IOU is located on the 5th floor of the hospital, and offers spacious and private birthing suites and private inpatient rooms in Ante- and Postpartum areas. We feature state of the art equipment for your safety and comfort. We have 24-hour nursing and physician staffing by obstetricians, maternal fetal medicine specialist, neonatologists, and anesthesiologists. We welcome nearly 2000 babies a year, and look forward to caring for you and the newest addition to your family. The SAMMC Perinatal Assessment center offers unparalleled care for high risk obstetric patients. Our Maternal Fetal Medicine Physicians serve pregnant women with obstetrical and or medical complications; they are specialists in caring for women during high-risk pregnancies. Their education and training includes advanced knowledge of obstetrical, medical, and surgical complications of pregnancy; of the use of ultrasound to enhance maternal and fetal well being; and the effects of these maternal or fetal complications on both mother and baby. Our doctors are also trained in the latest diagnostic and treatment methods used in the care of patients with complicated pregnancies. Our experts in the field of maternal fetal medicine are board certified, fellowship trained specialists that have experience in caring for the most at risk pregnant patients in consultation with primary Ob provider who could be Obstetrician or certified nurse midwife.
Our unit is family oriented and promotes rooming in and breastfeeding. Patients who wish to undergo vaginal birth after cesarean have the opportunity at SAMMC. Out IOU supports the Ob trauma for the city in conjunction with our trauma and emergency room providers. The ability to Skype the birth throughout the world is readily available to deployed family member.
