Land Mobile Radio (LMR)
LMR modernizes Army CONUS and Pacific non-tactical LMR systems in support of installation public safety organizations and functions, including first responder, force protection and other installation management functions. LMR solutions typically require local, state and federal mutual aid interoperability, advanced encryption standards and priority queuing for life and safety communications, as well as increased spectrum efficiency from wideband 25 kHz to narrowband 12.5 kHz. Also critical are the ability to log voice communications and the retention of trunked communications through Graceful Systems Degradation.
To meet these requirements, LMR acquires, manages and delivers network-centric solutions that typically entail upgrading system management centers, repeaters, dispatch consoles, handheld, mobile and desktop radios, and antennas. All acquired systems meet Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) P25 standards.
LMR is part of the Project Manager, Defense Communications and Army Transmission Systems (DCATS) portfolio of programs. With an annual budget authority of more than $550M, DCATS enables information dominance for the Army, Department of Defense, National Command Authority and International Partners by acquiring, implementing and sustaining strategic satellite and terrestrial communication systems, and by leading technologies to meet current and future requirements.
