Welcome to the Brooke Army Medical Center's Gastroenterology Service web page. Brooke Army Center is located on Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. We are honored and privileged to provide superb gastroenterology medical care to military members and their dependents. In addition, we train and educate gastroenterology fellows in a rich and varied environment which includes rotations at Wilford Hall Medical Center and University of Texas San Antonio.
About Us
The Gastroenterology Service evaluates diseases of the stomach, intestines, esophagus, pancreas, biliary tract, and liver. We provide a variety of technically advanced services to treat a range of conditions, including gastrointestinal bleeding, anemia, Crohn's disease and Ulcerative colitis, colon polyps and cancer, diverticulosis and diverticulitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux, pancreatitis, swallowing disorders, diarrhea and constipation. In addition, we can evaluate and treat a variety of liver disorders to include viral hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, hemochromatosis, Primary Biliary cirrhosis (PBC), Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC), non-alcholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and cirrhosis. Gastoenterology procedures offered include diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, upper endoscopy, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound with fine needle aspiration (EUS with FNA), esophagus dilation, esophageal motility, esophageal pH monitoring with the Bravo capsule, liver biopsy, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG tube), capsule endoscopy, and hemorrhoidal banding. New and exciting equipment includes Spyglass which allows endoscopic evaluation of the biliary and pancreatic ducts.
