Director - Michael D. Formica

Installation Management Command - Europe Region

Mr. Formica serves as the Region Director, Installation Management Command – Europe, headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany.

A retired U.S. Army combat arms officer, Mr. Formica served in a variety of command and key staff positions in the United States, Germany, Korea, and Middle East during his 27 years of military service. The capstone of this service was from January 2004 to February 2005 during which he commanded the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. During the 13-month deployment, the brigade combat team conducted full-spectrum operations working with joint, interagency, intergovernmental, and multinational forces in Baghdad, Fallujah, and Babel.

From July 2005 to June 2007, Mr. Formica was assigned to US Joint Forces Command (JFCOM), Joint Warfighting Center, where he served first as the Chief of Staff, and then the Director of JFCOM’s Joint Training and Operations Directorate. From June 2007 to May 2009, Mr. Formica served as the Executive Officer to the Commanding General, US Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Fort Monroe, Virginia. In June 2009, he assumed the position of Deputy Director, Joint Training Counter – Improvised Explosive Device Operations Integration Center, Newport News, Virginia.

In July 2010, Mr. Formica was appointed to the Senior Executive Service as the TRADOC Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, where he was charged with managing and transforming the Army’s training base, impacting more than a half million military in over 32 Army schools and training centers. In this capacity, he also managed several major programs including all Army Security Assistance training, Inter-service, and Reserve Component training. Additionally, he was the Army’s Functional Chief’s Representative for over 6,500 Training, Capability, and Doctrine Warfighting Developers serving in Career Program 32.

Mr. Formica is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Missouri and a Masters Degree in National Security Affairs from the United States Army War College. He is a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College, the Joint and Combined Warfighting School, and the United States Army War College Advanced Strategic Arts Program. Mr. Formica is also a certified Project Management Professional.

Mr. Formica’s awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, and the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters.

Mr. Formica and his wife, Kimberly are the proud parents of four children, Anthony, Nicholas, Alyssa, and John.
