Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

FOIA, 5 U.S.C. §552, provides that any person has the right to request access to federal agency records or information. Federal agencies are required to disclose records or information upon receipt of a written FOIA request, except such records or information that are exempt from disclosure pursuant 5 U.S.C. §552. The 1996 FOIA amendments require federal agencies to implement a publicly accessible Electronic Reading Room to store commonly requested documents.
