The Unclassified Information Sharing Service (UISS) All Partners Access Network (APAN) managed by the Defense Information Systems Agency’s Multinational Information Systems Division provided essential information sharing capabilities to the biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The exercise began June 30 and will conclude Aug. 4.
As the world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps foster and sustain cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security, on both land and sea. Participants consist of 27 nations, 45 ships, five submarines, more than 200 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel, engaging in the multi-phase exercise and training evolutions. This year’s RIMPAC conducted the largest-ever coordinated multinational humanitarian assistance/disaster response (HA/DR) exercise.
As the single enterprise solution for sharing non-classified information with non-traditional partners for HA/DR missions around the world, APAN provided RIMPAC essential information sharing capabilities through real-time chat services, geospatial information and tagging, document dissemination, and on-the-fly translation for the foreign participants, resulting in the unprecedented flow of information that made this HA/DR exercise a resounding success.
