CHIPS Articles: Naval Surface Forces Week

Naval Surface Forces Week
By U.S. Navy - January 13, 2016
"We've matured the thinking about the distributed lethality operational concept... By making surface ships more lethal, we can make the entire force more lethal."
- Vice Adm. Thomas Rowden, Dec. 9, 2015, Aviation Week, "Navy Admiral Seeks to Add Power to Force"

The U.S. Navy's surface forces are composed of hundreds of advanced and heavily-armed ships, as well as thousands of dedicated and highly-trained Sailors who do their part to protect and defend their country. Surface Warfare is conducted by surface ships, which includes Anti-Surface Warfare, Anti-Air Warfare, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Naval Gun Fire Support, Riverine Operations, Mine Warfare, and Electronic Warfare. The U.S. Navy's surface forces include Guided Missile Destroyers (DDG), Guided Missile Cruisers (CG), Littoral Combat Ships (LCS), and the future DDG-1000 Destroyers.
