OMAHA, NE – Western Contracting Corporation of Sioux City, Iowa, has been awarded a $1,868,600 construction contract for work in Nemaha County, Nebraska.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District (Corps) awarded the contract for the Langdon Bend top width widening project that includes mechanical top width widening of the Missouri River between river miles 530.8 and 531.4. The widening would create a shallow bench approximately 3,200 feet long and an average of 200 feet wide. Approximately 306,000 cubic yards of material will be excavated on federally-owned property. Sixteen new riprap structures, requiring approximately 15,000 tons of quarried stone, would be constructed along this river stretch.

All construction work will take place beginning in late fall of 2016 with completion anticipated in late fall of 2017.

The project is being constructed as part of the Corps’ Missouri River Recovery Program which helps to fulfill the requirements of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2003 Amended Biological Opinion for the Operation of the Missouri River Main Stem Reservoir System, Operation and Maintenance of the Missouri River Bank Stabilization and Navigation Project, and Operation of the Kansas River Reservoir System.
