RECOVER

Picayune Strand Pump Station

RECOVER (REstoration COordination & VERification) is a multi-agency team of scientists, modelers, planners and resource specialists who organize and apply scientific and technical information in ways that are essential in supporting the objectives of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP).

The RECOVER team conducts scientific and technical evaluations and assessments for improving CERP’s ability to restore, preserve and protect the south Florida ecosystem while providing for the region's other water-related needs. RECOVER applies a system-wide perspective to the planning and implementation of the CERP and communicates and coordinates the results of these evaluations and assessments to managers, decision makers and the public.

Draft Lake Okeechobee RECOVER Performance Measures available for 10-day public and agency review - Aug. 18, 2016

Two draft performance measures for Lake Okeechobee are available online for a 10-day public and agency review period prior to acceptance by the multi-agency RECOVER (REstoration, COordination & VERification) team. Comments will be accepted through September 1, 2016.

The two Draft Performance Measures are the Draft RECOVER Lake Okeechobee Ecological Indicator Score Performance Measure and the Draft Lake Okeechobee Nearshore Region Submerged Aquatic Vegetation.

As restoration of the Everglades progresses, it is important to be able to estimate the ecological response to restoration projects and the program as a whole.  Performance measures are tools to allow managers to assess and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP).

The Lake Okeechobee Ecological Indicator Scores Performance Measures has been developed to evaluate CERP scenarios based on ecological indicator performance measures using predictive lake stages and ecological indicator scores.  The Nearshore Region Submerged Aquatic Vegetation Coverage Performance Measure can be used to assess annual summer submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) coverage derived from monitoring data.  The desired restoration condition for Lake Okeechobee ecological indicators and summer SAV areal coverage are related to improvements in the frequency with which lake stages remain within the preferred stage envelope as a result of improvements resulting from hydrologic management and in-lake and watershed restoration projects.
