Office of Emergency Management executes the Governor's responsibilities to maintain an emergency services system as prescribed in ORS 401 by planning, preparing and providing for the prevention, mitigation and management of emergencies or disasters that present a threat to the lives and property of citizens of and visitors to the State of Oregon.
Department of Land Conservation and Development, as stewards of Oregon's land use planning program, fosters sustainable, vibrant communities and protects natural resources in a dynamic partnership with citizens, local governments, and state and federal agencies. DLCD’s natural hazards program addresses protection of people and property from damage caused by natural hazards by providing information, maps, land use planning guidance and technical assistance.
Department of Geology and Mineral Industries increases understanding of Oregon's geologic resources and hazards through science and stewardship.
Water Resources Department is the state agency responsible for managing water in Oregon with dual key goals of addressing Oregon's water supply needs, while also restoring and protecting streamflows and watersheds to ensure the long-term sustainability of Oregon's ecosystems, economy and quality of life.
FEDERAL
National Weather Service is comprised of Weather Forecast Offices, River Forecast Centers and National Centers that provide weather, water and climate data, forecasts and warnings for the protection of life and property and enhancement of the national economy. The Weather Forecast offices in Oregon and the Northwest River Forecast Center specialize in weather, flood and water resources prediction. They partner with media and emergency and water management agencies to prepare for and respond to hazardous weather and floods with the goal of increasing community resilience for these types of events.
Natural Resources Conservation Service provides leadership, technical and financial assistance in a partnership effort to help America's private land owners and managers conserve their soil, water, and other natural resources. NRCS provides assistance for many conservation activities based on sound science and customers' specific needs.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District provides vital public engineering services to the Pacific Northwest and the Nation during peace and war to strengthen our security, promote a strong economy, and enhance environmental sustainability. The ultimate goal of our Flood Risk Management mission is to save lives and reduce property damage by reducing flood risks.
U.S. Geological Survey provides reliable scientific information to describe and understand the Earth, minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters, manage natural resources, and protect our quality of life. A diverse range of scientific expertise facilitates large-scale, multi-disciplinary investigations and impartial scientific information to give resource managers, planners and other customers.
