Brazos River Floodgates

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District prepares to reinstall the East Brazos River Floodgates following a yearlong refurbishing process in which each of the 80-ton sector gates along with an additional 40 tons of organic material were removed for repair and cleaning to restore and enhance their structural integrity and operation. 

NOTE: IF AND WHEN RIVER REACHES 7 MPH, ALL TRAFFIC WILL BE SHUT DOWN.

Floodgate Dimensions: 750 feet long by 75 feet wide; maximum to length is 1,180 feet and maximum tow width is 55 feet.

Note: When head differential in either East or West gates are between 0.7 feet and 1.8 feet, installation will go on RESTRICTIONS.

When head differential exceeds 1.8 feet, that gate will be CLOSED FOR NAVIGATION. 

AS LONG AS THE BRAZOS RIVER VELOCITY IS 5 MPH,THERE IS ONLY DAYLIGHT NAVIGATION.

Brazos River Floodgates repairs and pipeline dredging of the Brazos River Crossing.  Goodloe Marine will be performing maintenance dredging of the Brazos River Crossing.  During the same time, J&S Contractors will be performing repairs to the Brazos River Floodgates guide walls at both the East and West Floodgates.  This work will require closure of the Brazos River Floodgates during the designated periods of work, Monday through Sunday: 1800 to 0600

Time:  Work is scheduled from 18 July 2016 thru 17 August 2016, 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM Monday through Sunday.

Commercial Vessel Check-in Procedures

West bound vessels check in at Bryan Beach bridge - East bound vessels check in at Jones Lake. West bound vessels use north bank moorings when tripping barges. East bound vessels use south bank moorings when tripping barges.
