About the Buffalo District
The Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District is made up of a diverse group of individuals from a variety of disciplines and expertise. These individuals work together every day to build a strong cohesive team that is committed to maintaining the Nations waterways and structures.

- Area of Responsibility covers 38,000 square miles
- Has 16 commercial and 19 recreational harbors
- Maintains five of the top 100 United States ports
- Has 110 miles of federal navigation channels
- Has 1,683 miles of shoreline along the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River
- Maintains 38 miles of piers breakwaters and jetties
- Is the Lead Radiological Waste Design Center for the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division
- Is the Designated Regional Sediment Management District for the Great Lakes
- Designed the United States portion of the St. Lawrence Seaway
- Operates Mount Morris Dam and Visitor Center
- Operates Black Rock Lock
- Is a member of the International Niagara Board of Control
