Planning and Design Analysis - Plan Formulation Report and Environmental Assessment for Big Lake, Verdigris River, Rogers County, Okla.

Big Lake is located in Rogers County, about 10 miles northeast of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Big Lake is a natural oxbow lake located along the Verdigris River, approximately 15 miles downstream of Oologah Lake and Dam. A location map is shown in Figure 1. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The Big Lake ecosystem complex is approximately 1,041 acres and includes over 700 acres of various types of wetland habitat. Other areas of comparable habitat have been lost to agricultural uses or operation of the navigation channel. The development of the navigation system greatly curtailed over bank flooding and made clearing for farming more feasible.
