PRSA's Houston Chapter: Silver Excalibur Award: Social Media, Storytelling through Social Media: A part of a larger community relations campaign to maximize outreach efforts, engage the public and tell the Corps’ story; the Public Affairs Office began posting monthly Employee Spotlight stories online to not only highlight staffs’ achievements, but to enlighten the public about our role in the communities in which we live, work and play. The campaign allowed staff to put a face to the organization, as USACE Galveston District employees are often the organization’s best advocates, commonly on the front lines telling our story. |

Kassner Public Affairs Competition: Category A: Community Relations Individual Achievement - First Place -- Isidro Reyna, APR: Reyna joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District as a civilian public affairs officer in 2009. As the deputy public affairs officer, he maintains internal and external communications and effectively conveys the district’s engineering mission to a complex military, civil service and contract workforce as well as key audiences ranging from congressional representatives to the public. During his tenure, Reyna has been instrumental in increasing awareness of the value the Corps brings to the local community, state and nation. |

International Boating & Water Safety Summit Media Awards: USACE Galveston District’s Simon DeSoto, Colorado River lockmaster, earned second and third place awards for his radio water safety public service announcements during the 17th International Boating & Water Safety Summit in San Antonio, Texas. DeSoto partnered with Happy Radio 92.5 to produce and broadcast the PSAs to a potential audience of 36,000 listeners along the Texas coast. |

Hermes Awards: The USACE Galveston District was recognized with a Gold Award from the 2013 Hermes Creative Awards competition for its Corps Cares: Congressional Report. The annual reports are distributed electronically to community leaders and congressional representatives, including both Texas and Louisiana senators and are posted on the district's website. |
