ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – District Commander Lt. Col. James Booth recognized geographer Doug Walther for his GIS support to local fire and emergency management services, Oct. 3, 2016. The local fire/EMS community sought out assistance in creating a map book of the local Bosque area with all known hazards, routes, and fire hydrants identified. For half the cost of a commercial contract, Walther and the District supported the local services in order to allow them to effectively fight fires in the Bosque areas.

COCHITI LAKE, N.M. – Part of the trail that volunteers worked on, Sept. 24, 2016.  Approximately 65 people volunteered at the lake for National Public Lands Day.

JOHN MARTIN RESERVOIR, Colo., -- Volunteers work to remove invasive trees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 24, 2016. The work improved nesting habitat for the endangered interior least tern and threatened piping plover birds which like to nest at the reservoir.
