Nominations for DON IM/IT Excellence Awards Due Jan. 7

Nominations are being accepted for the DON IM/IT Excellence Awards. Submissions are due Jan. 7, 2015.

The DON IM/IT Excellence Awards will be presented on Feb. 10 at the DON IT Conference awards ceremony. Nominations are now being accepted for the following:

  • DON Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) Excellence Awards;
  • John J. Lussier Electromagnetic Spectrum Award;
  • DON Cyberspace/IT Person of the Year Award; and
  • DON Cyberspace/IT Rising Star of the Year Award.

The DON IM/IT Excellence Awards recognize superior quality of IM/IT projects, teams, and individuals helping to transform the Navy and Marine Corps through information technology. The John J. Lussier Electromagnetic Spectrum Award is presented to an individual who demonstrates superior achievement in DON Electromagnetic Spectrum management and use.

The DON Cyberspace/IT Person of the Year and Rising Star of the Year Awards acknowledge individuals who strive to deliver significant management efficiencies and cost savings to the department, through visionary thinking, innovation, and superior leadership skills.

Awards Submission:

To be considered for one of the DON CIO awards, please submit a nomination package through your Command Information Officer via email to thomas.p.leblanc.ctr@navy.mil by Jan. 7, 2015. Award winners will be notified by email on or about Jan. 21, 2015.

All packages must contain the following nominee information:

  • Name, title, grade level, phone number, mailing address and email address of the individual or team members being nominated.
  • Name of the project associated with the award nomination, if applicable.
  • Name, title, phone number, and email address of the concurring Command Information Officer or Commanding Officer.
  • Name, title and mailing address of the supervisor or person to whom award letter should be sent if the individual or team is selected.
  • Name, title, phone number and email address of POC or person submitting nomination.
  • A summary in 250 words or less, of the individual or team being nominated that addresses the following for evaluation of the award.
  • Reasons why the individual or team is being nominated;
  • Results of work addressing the award’s criteria;
  • Time period covered in the nomination;
  • Other quantitative results or measures of improvement;
  • A summary in 125 words or less, which will be used as a general description for publication and for award citation letters (for award winners).

Nomination Criteria:

DON IM/IT Excellence Individual and Team Awards

Timeframe: Fiscal Year 2014

No. of Awards: 1-2 individual; 4-5 teams

Eligibility: Individual or team of government civilian or military (can include contractor for team award) that meets one or more of the below criteria.

Criteria:

  • Superior leadership skills or high performing team, delivering results that ensure the organization is working toward common solutions.
  • Contributing value to the organization and end users by improving mission essential business processes.
  • Significantly improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization in meeting its mission.
  • Improve mission effectiveness through Information Management and Knowledge Management including electronic records management.
  • Significantly contributing to enterprise IT initiatives to enable higher levels of Cybersecurity, computer network defense, identity management, and critical infrastructure protection.
  • Significant contributions to the recruitment, retention, and training of the IM/IT workforce.

John J. Lussier Electromagnetic Spectrum Award

Timeframe: Fiscal Year 2014

No. of Awards: 1

Eligibility: Individual government civilian or military that meets one or more of the below criteria.

Criteria:

  • Strategic leadership in venues that protect and advance DON spectrum access.
  • Identified and/or implemented innovative advancements that improve spectrum operations in the electromagnetic environment.
  • Actions resulting in significant spectrum management process improvements.
  • Actions resulting in the advancement of spectrum automation techniques and capabilities that streamlined/improved spectrum processes, acquisition, sharing, or operational capabilities. Other significant actions and achievements that support/advance DON strategic spectrum goals.

DON Cyberspace/IT Person of the Year and DON Cyberspace/IT Rising Star of the Year Awards

Timeframe: Fiscal Year 2014

No. of Awards: 1 for each category

Eligibility: Individual government civilian or military that meets the below criteria.

  • Person of the Year: GS13/O4/W-1/E-7 and above
  • Rising Star of the Year: GS12/O3/E-6 and below

Criteria:

  • In delivering significant management efficiencies and/or cost savings:
    • Applied visionary thinking, challenged conventional thinking and/or implemented a bold change management approach.
    • Applied innovative information technology or information management practices, principles, or processes.
    • Demonstrated superior leadership skills.
  • Solution is a scalable model that can be used by other DON and DoD organizations.
