Rend Lake recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Shelter 4 located in the North Sandusky Day Use Area. Funding for the project was awarded through the Handshake Partnership Program. This program encourages community engagement and the use of partnerships to accomplish mutually beneficial projects. Eight local unions stepped up to assist and provided more than 950 hours of volunteer work to help complete this project.

The successes of the St. Louis District would not be accomplished without the dedication and support of all of our partners.

Mark Twain Lake recently became the recipient of a $20,000 Handshake Partnership grant for the development of an archery park in the Frank Russell Recreation Area. The project is being developed in collaboration with the Mark Twain Lake Friends of Recreation and Environmental Stewardship Council. The Frank Russell Archery Park will fulfill customer demands, promote quality outdoor experiences, and support the environmental and recreational missions of the Corps of Engineers.

This grant will fund Phase 1 of the project, and proposes the development of the following facilities: an accessible seven station archery range with target distances ranging from 10 yards to 50 yards; an accessible four station youth archery range; and a 14 station 3-D archery trail. Phase 1 work is expected to begin in the Spring of 2016.

Phase 2 of the archery park will be developed with future partnering and funding opportunities, and proposes development of an accessible 3-D target archery range featuring a multiple elevation shooting platform.
