The district's STEM Program is part of the district's Corps in the Classroom Program and is an initiative that supports USACE' STEM Program to pair Army personnel and civil engineers with students to provide opportunities for students to learn about the engineering and science career fields, educate the community about the Corps’ mission and highlight the district’s contributions to the community, state and nation.

HOUSTON (Nov. 1-2, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District hosted the Great Minds in STEM program Nov. 1-2, 2012, as part of its Corps in the Classroom initiative at The Rice School, a Spanish and technology magnet school in the Houston Independent School District. Consisting of a student teams-approach, Corps employees worked with students to analyze and find solutions to engineering and environmental sciences issues and projects. In addition to the student activities, an orientation provided parents with presentations about the numerous career opportunities available for professional engineers and environmental scientists.

GALVESTON, Texas (Jan. 20, 2012) – USACE Galveston District staff participated as judges in the annual L.A. Morgan Elementary Science Fair Jan. 20, 2012, in Galveston as part of the district’s CORPS IN THE CLASSROOM initiative. USACE staff judged 4th grade bilingual group projects, which included topics such as the different effects on chlorophyll, optimum temperature for crystal growth and river flooding.
HOUSTON (Jan. 12, 2012) – Jeffrey Pinsky, a regulatory specialist with the USACE Galveston District, participated as a judge in the annual Whitcomb Elementary Science Fair in Houston as part of the district’s CORPS IN THE CLASSROOM initiative. Corps in the Classroom pairs Army personnel, engineers and scientists with elementary, middle and high school students, providing opportunities for students to learn about the engineering and science career fields, educate the community about the Corps’ mission and highlight the district’s contributions to the community, state and nation.
GALVESTON, Texas (June 9, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District participated in the 2012 Texas Coastal Expo, a family friendly, free opportunity to learn about the resources of the Texas coast. Staff provided water safety information, in addition to educating attendees about Corps missions.

Corps in the Classroom Program spark students’ interest in STEM
GALVESTON, Texas - Before entering the building, engineers Franchelle Craft and Eduardo Irigoyen turn their cell phone ringers off. They make their way to the front desk, sign in as visitors and wait to be escorted to a classroom where they will spend the next two hours interacting with middle school students enrolled in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) courses as volunteers of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District’s “Corps in the Classroom” program.
