The Rock Island District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers administers federal water resource programs in a 78,000 square-mile area encompassing the eastern two-thirds of Iowa, the northern half of Illinois and portions of southern Wisconsin and Minnesota, and the northeast corner of Missouri. This area includes 314 miles of the Mississippi River, 269 miles of the Illinois Waterway and their tributaries, and 197,000 acres of federal land.

Visiting the Rock Island District Office

The Rock Island District office is located on Rock Island Arsenal which sits on an island in the middle of the Mississippi River. It is important to remember that the Mississippi River flows east to west at this location rather than north to south. This change in river flow can set you off course when navigating around the Quad Cities.

SECURITY CHECK

The Rock Island District Headquarters Office (Clock Tower Building), Mississippi River Visitor Center and Locks and Dam 15 are located on the west end of Arsenal Island in Rock Island, Illinois. Visitors must access the Island using the Moline entrance located near River Drive and 16th St. in Moline, Illinois.

These facilites are located on a military installation which requires visitors to be processed through a security checkpoint upon entering the island. Each person over the age of 16 will be required to show identification and a background check will be completed before an access pass will be issued.

Directions and Gate Access Information

Click here to expand contentClick here to collapse content  Davenport Gate - Davenport, Iowa: Mon-Fri., 5:30 a.m.-8:15 a.m. and 2 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

Monday-Friday from 5:30 a.m. - 8:15 am and 2 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. visitors may access the Rock Island Arsenal from downtown Davenport, Iowa, via 2nd Street by crossing the Government Bridge and immediately turning left at the end of the bridge, this will take you to the Davenport Gate security checkpoint.  Once through the security checkpoint the Clock Tower Buidling is the first building on the right. The visitor entrance is located on the otherside of the building facing south.

If you are traveling from Davenport, Iowa, and wish to enter the Rock Island Arsenal during any other time than listed above, including weekends, you will need to go across the Government Bridge, go past the Davenport Gate entrance and proceed to the traffic light. Turn left at this light and proceed under the railroad bridge to the Rock Island Gate checkpoint. Once through security continue to Sylvan Avenue and turn left (just before the water tower), proceed to the traffic signal and turn left onto Rodman Avenue.  Continue down Rodman in the right hand lane, the Clock Tower Building is the last building on the left. The visitor entrance is on the south side of the building.

Visitors can access the Rock Island Arsenal by crossing the Moline Arsenal Bridge located in downtown Moline, Ill.; this access can be from River Drive westbound or 4th Avenue eastbound.  Once you have crossed the bridge you will arrive at the Moline Gate security checkpoint.  Once through the security gate you will be on Rodman Avenue, continue on Rodman for approximately 3 miles to the other end of the island.  The Clock Tower Building is the last building on the left. The visitor entrance is located on the south side of the building.
