HOUSTON (Nov. 1-2, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District hosted the Great Minds in STEM program Nov. 1-2, 2012, as part of its Corps in the Classroom initiative at The Rice School, a Spanish and technology magnet school in the Houston Independent School District. Consisting of a student teams-approach, Corps employees worked with students to analyze and find solutions to engineering and environmental sciences issues and projects. In addition to the student activities, an orientation provided parents with presentations about the numerous career opportunities available for professional engineers and environmental scientists.

Corps in the Classroom pairs Army personnel and civil engineers with students to provide opportunities for students to learn about the engineering and science career fields, educate the community about the Corps’ mission and highlight the district’s contributions to the community, state and nation.
