MRRIC discusses Mo. River Recovery preferred alternative

The Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee (MRRIC) met here Aug. 8-11 to receive updates on the Missouri River Recovery Program’s (MRRP) draft Management Plan-Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS). The plan is part of ongoing efforts to support recovery of three species in the Missouri River – the Least Tern, Piping Plover, and Pallid Sturgeon – in accordance with the Endangered Species Act. Missouri River Implementation Committee to meet in La Vista, NE

The Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee (MRRIC) will hold its 34th meeting August 9-11, 2016 in La Vista, NE. Members of the public will have an opportunity during each daily session to address the Committee and the lead federal agencies (the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service)) – regarding the Missouri River Recovery Program (MRRP). The meeting will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott, Omaha-La Vista, 12560 Westport Parkway, La Vista, NE 68128, beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, and concluding at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11. Missouri River Tribes meet in Nebraska

The Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee (MRRIC) met in Omaha, Nebraska, August 25–27. Missouri Basin Tribes participating in MRRIC communicated their desire to ensure that cultural resources were considered during the development of the Missouri River Management Plan and EIS and that the National Historic Preservation Act was not impacted by any decisions made moving forward. Tribal representatives emphasized that the committee should work together on the basis of mutual respect to resolve any issues that may impact tribal lands or their cultural resources. MRRIC members welcomed new representatives from the Crow Nation and the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. Additionally, the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, Oglala Sioux Tribe, and the Fort Peck Tribes participated in the meeting. [Read More]
