Spotlight on Science and Technology: Dates Set for 2017 Naval Future Force S&T Expo
By Warren Duffie Jr., Office of Naval Research - August 4, 2016
ARLINGTON, Va.-The Office of Naval Research's (ONR) biennial Naval Future Force Science and Technology (S&T) Expo will take place July 20-21, 2017, officials announced today.

The event will be held in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. An announcement of the venue will be made soon. Registration will open in the Spring timeframe.

"The chief of naval operations has challenged all of us to strengthen naval power at and from the sea," said Rear Adm. Mat Winter, chief of naval research. "Our S&T mission execution brings the best and brightest performers together to answer that call and deliver innovative capabilities to solve our warfighters' toughest challenges for the future force, today."

The Expo is the premier S&T event for the Navy and Marine Corps and is held every two years. It draws several thousand attendees and is designed to support the objectives of the Naval S&T Strategy. An updated version of the strategy will be unveiled at the event.

It also will showcase some of the Navy's and Marine Corp's latest technologies and bring together the brightest minds from around the world to share information; discuss research opportunities; and build partnerships between the Navy, Marine Corps, industry and academia.

Attendees will have access to senior leadership and program managers to learn how to do business with ONR. The Expo also provides a forum for high-level speakers from across the DoD and federal government to convey crucial information, opportunities and important announcements.

As in previous years, there will be one-on-one appointments, information kiosks with program officers, breakout and poster sessions, exhibits and seminars designed to help participants learn about ONR's mission and how to support it.

The Expo will be co-sponsored by the American Society of Naval Engineers-the leading society for engineers, scientists and other professionals who design, develop, test and maintain naval and maritime ships, submarines and aircraft, and their associated systems and subsystems.
