Lake Level Information

Lake Erie and Ontario Water Levels:

 

  • Weekly Lake Erie and Lake Ontario Level and Flow Statements – These statements are also available by calling toll free at 1-800-833-6390. This service is provided in support of the International St. Lawrence River Board of Control by the Buffalo District Corps of Engineers. The statements are updated each week.

Weekly Lake Erie Update

As of September 8, 2016 the mean water level on Lake Erie was 572.11 feet (174.38 m). The long term average for the month of September is 571.38 feet (174.16 m).

The water level relative to chart datum for the following locations was: 

Toledo 2.6 feet (0.80 m)
Cleveland 2.9 feet (0.87 m)
Erie 3.1 feet (0.93 m)
Buffalo 3.2 feet (0.98 m)

The Lake Erie mean outflow was 220,700 ft3/s (6250 m3/s).

The Lake Erie levels and outflows may be obtained by calling the Buffalo District Public Affairs Office at (716) 879-4349.

Weekly Lake Ontario Update

As of September 8, 2016 the mean water level on Lake Ontario was 245.24 feet (74.75 m). The long term average for the month of September is 245.21 feet (74.74 m).

The water level relative to chart datum for the following locations was: 

 

Ogdensburg 1.6 feet (0.50 m)
Cornwall 1.7 feet (0.53 m)
Summerstown 1.6 feet (0.48 m)
Pointe Claire 2.0 feet (0.62 m)
Port of Montreal 0.5 feet (0.14 m)

The Lake Ontario mean outflow was 261,300 ft3/s (7400 m3/s).
