Lt. Col. Sugrue

LIEUTENANT COLONEL Dennis P. Sugrue is the Commander of Detroit District USACE. He graduated from the United States Military Academy and received his commission in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1999.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from West Point, and two Master of Science degrees in Geological Engineering and Environmental Engineering from Missouri Science and Technology and The Johns Hopkins University, respectively.

LTC Sugrue recently served as the Deputy District Commander of the Los Angeles District USACE, California. Prior to that, he was assigned to 3rd BDE, 10th Mountain Division where he served as the Brigade Engineer and Executive Officer of the 3rd BDE Special Troops Battalion.  While deployed in Afghanistan, LTC Sugrue served as Executive Officer to the Commander of the Advise and Assist Command in RC-East South of Kabul.  LTC Sugrue has served in leadership positions as Platoon Leader with the 40th Engineer Battalion in Baumholder, Germany, and as Troop Commander of HHT, 3-71 Cavalry, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY.  He also served as an assistant professor of Environmental Engineering at the US Military Academy from 2009-2012.  His deployments include two tours in Afghanistan, and one to Kosovo. 

LTC Sugrue’s military awards include the Bronze Star (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC),  Kosovo Campaign Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Ribbon with 2 Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Ranger tab. His military education includes the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Command and General Staff College.

LTC Sugrue is a registered Professional Engineer in New York and Missouri.
